چکیده

Neogene syn-and post-orogenic sedimentary rocks in Sulawesi are important to understand the history of collision Australian continental crust with SE Asia. However, they have received relatively little attention, and generally been considered be molasse-type deposits similar characteristics across Sulawesi—the Celebes Molasse. New field sedimentological observations, results from heavy mineral studies detrital zircon U–Pb geochronology, together conventional sandstone petrography identify three provenance shifts, that can correlated significant tectonic events enable reconstruction palaeogeography Sulawesi. The first shift was related Early Miocene North volcanic arc, accompanied by ophiolite emplacement East Sulawesi, marked a change pre-collision carbonates ultramafic-rich clastics Bungku Formation. Malaria in North Sulawesi, Indonesia

The incidence and impact of malaria in North Sulawesi have declined both in the short term during the 1990s, and over a much longer timespan (though perhaps less continuously) since the end of the colonial period. The improvement already seems to have been well underway before deliberate vector control activities became extensive in the second half of the 1970s, and environmental changes affect...

Provenance and Paleogeography of the Late Jurassic Norphlet Formation

Knowledge of reservoir distribution and quality in the offshore eastern Gulf of Mexico (EGOM) is essential for future economic development of hydrocarbon resources. The Norphlet Fm. has been a significant hydrocarbon reservoir in the onshore EGOM region since the late 1960’s; however, due to sparse lithologic data in the offshore EGOM, predicting Norphlet Fm. reservoir distribution in this area...

The evolutionary history of the extinct ratite moa and New Zealand Neogene paleogeography.

The ratite moa (Aves: Dinornithiformes) were a speciose group of massive graviportal avian herbivores that dominated the New Zealand (NZ) ecosystem until their extinction approximately 600 years ago. The phylogeny and evolutionary history of this morphologically diverse order has remained controversial since their initial description in 1839. We synthesize mitochondrial phylogenetic information...

Five new species of Syzygium (Myrtaceae) from Sulawesi, Indonesia

Following ongoing ecological research on the tree diversity of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, we describe five new species of Syzygium. These are the first descriptions of Syzygium species from the island since Blume (1850, Jambosa celebica and J. cornifolia), highlighting the significant lack of taxonomic research on the genus for the region. The five species proposed as new are Syzygium b...

An ethnoarchaeological study of feasting in Sulawesi, Indonesia

Recent literature suggests that feasting played a major role in such developments as the emergence of socioeconomic inequalities, the creation and utilization of political power, and the evolution of prestige technologies in prehistoric societies. Ethnoarchaeological studies of feasting in traditional societies have the potential to shed light on how feasting is related to these and other socio...
